The study area of our current research is Panepistimiou Street. Upon an in-depth analysis of the area, we found that this street, as one of the central and well-planned axes of Athens, holds a rich historical and cultural background.
During our exploration, we focused on the entrances of buildings, paying particular attention to those leading to arcades. By accurately documenting their features, we discovered that the arcades of Panepistimiou Street represent a significant commercial and cultural element within the street's overall activity. At the end of this description, it is worth noting that this area is not limited to historical records; it also hosts shops, cafés, and restaurants, attracting a large number of visitors. Additionally, bookstores, theaters, and cinemas operate in the area, giving it a vibrant and multi-dimensional character.
Through detailed mapping, we revealed the existence of a network of arcades, some of which are interconnected, creating a unique environment detached from traditional external street traffic. This network highlights the role of arcades as lively spaces, playing a crucial part in shaping a unique local cultural identity.
