S05 - Kotzia Sq & Athinas Str.
Researchers: Anna Malliou, Georgia Tampaki

Athinas Street is the main street of Athens, starting from Omonia Square and ending at Monastiraki Square, with the Acropolis as a background. It contains many shops, hotels and general public activities. It is quite interesting how this street has changed over the years, with the squares that characterize it constantly changing shape and use. Kotzia Square is located along Athinas Street and on it are several important buildings, such as the City Hall, the National Bank and the Mela building. In the past, there was also the Municipal Theater of Athens, which was located opposite the City Hall, however today the square has an archaeological site containing ancient finds. This street is a jewel of Athens from the past, with the neoclassical and listed buildings that it contains along its length, while at the same time it is the passway through three of its squares
