The building where we implemented our intervention is the Athinai Mansion, which houses the financial ministry services of “Greece 2.0.” It is located on Panepistimiou Street, directly opposite the Academy of Athens, and is connected to the Korai Arcade as well as a rear building that serves as the headquarters of an educational institution.
In our intervention, we aimed to enhance the hub created between the building, the adjoining arcades, and surrounding structures, transforming it into a functional public space that warmly welcomes visitors. Additionally, the upper floors are planned to incorporate residential units, offering living opportunities for individuals working in the center of Athens.
The building’s public functions are designed to maintain a high standard of quality of life. Specifically, the first floor will be dedicated to fitness activities, while the rooftop will be converted into an urban farming space, utilizing urban voids and rooftops for the production of garden products. Furthermore, on the ground floor, the shops will promote goods cultivated within the city, and there will also be an office providing consultancy and design services for spaces to be converted into urban farming areas.
