The city, our site, the people. It’s the cohesion between these three entities that we have been trying to establish. A task that naturally arose through the placement of our site. (With such a direct view of the Parliament and Syntagma Square, who could not question their underlying correlation?)
Through the research of various references, one thing is clear: A redefinition of what is commonly acknowledged as an archive is long overdue. The collection, curation, and conservation of texts and artifacts, while rather crucial, without a receiver, an observer, or a critic, might as well not exist. An interactive archive is needed. To contribute to the construction of a collective memory we wish to create a Living Archive through collaboration with «Μουσείον της Πόλεως των Αθηνών».
Having the intent of continuing the interactive timeline of Athenian history and important national events that as of today cover the time period from 1821 to 1941, our project considers all factors culminating in the creation of an interactive archive. From the collection and curation of data to making it, along with other cultural and educational services, accessible and catered for all generations.
Our proposal is based on three axes: General/Historical context , typology of building composition and site analysis of immediate surrounding space. On the ground floor, there is a flower market that sells flowers and herbs that grow in the garden on the roof. On the second floor, there is the ongoing exhibition of the Athens timeline and on the third floor, there are workshops that research and curate the data. on the fourth floor begins the four-story department of the Archive. It consists of three parts; an analog archive that stores newspapers, magazines, and books, an audio archive that stores recordings, and a video archive that stores TV and cinema recordings. These areas are inclusive to all generations with special activities for each age group. On the roof, there is a garden with the fiona of Mount Lycabettus, a quiet place in the city center. Eridanos River is a key element that unites all the parts of the building. through the pipes in the courtyard of the building, the water is brought to the surface and is being used.
