Korai for rent

This research is based on the building of the National Insurance Company, the Megaron at 4 Korai Street, a historical building in the centre of Athens, and it is divided into two parts.
First, the research focuses on the documentation and analysis of this historic building through a series of drawings, photographs, diagrams, sketches, architectural study and legislative regulations, understanding the project in depth.
Then, the second part of the paper presents a proposal, which is about designing a new strategy, a new residential model, inspired by the building, the area and the Greek everyday life, while integrating new types of private and public spaces. A new wall of functions covers the mechanisms that were missing in the office spaces, turning the apartment into a flexible core of activities. The new apartments are created to mitigate the difficulty of finding decent housing in the centre of Athens, supporting the innovation sought by the modern Athenian, thus changing the way of life.
The entire work is based on the current housing and tourism crisis in Greece and more specifically in the capital city, with the aim to be enriched in the next step. With the continuous study and effort to extend this strategy to more than one building, a new, pioneering neighborhood will flourish in the center of Athens.
