The construction of the building of the Ministry of Commerce, in Canningos Square, began between 1938 and 1940, based on plans by the architect Emmanuel Kriezis (1880-1947), a graduate of the Munich School, an early exponent of a trend that sought functionality and the use of modern building materials, combined with the search for a "Greekness". It is a compact 8-storey structure with two quadrangles, which occupies the entire block in front of the square. Its construction was completed after the war (1946-1949), followed by other interventions (1960-1962, 1970s), with modifications and additions of floors.
