Our proposal is based on the current situation of housing in the center of Athens and our goal is to create a community inside the building of the ministry, which will allow people in need to acquire a safe and comfortable home.
Our building plan includes common spaces mainly on the ground floor and the roof. All the floors in between consist of apartments and basic facilities, such as laundry rooms and storage spaces.
On the ground floor, there is a social kitchen and a child care space, where services are provided for residents and neighbors. In addition, there are two big spaces rented for events or classes and workspaces facing the atrium which are also connected to the basement. On the roof, there are two pavilions, an open space for movie screenings and various planted areas, such as vegetable gardens, that offer residents a place to rest and communicate with each other.
The apartments we designed aim to offer healthy living conditions to individuals as well as families in need, considering the rising difficulty of finding an affordable place to stay in the center of the city.
